Northern Powergrid (NPg) is inviting companies that want to provide flexibility services to its network to attend a webinar explaining the opportunities.
NPg is the distribution network operator (DNO) managing local electricity supplies across the North East, Yorkshire, and northern Lincolnshire. Its role is to own, operate and maintain the network in the region.
Like other DNOs, NPg has to manage increased use of its network as business and domestic customers electrify their heat, vehicles and processes. As well as expanding and strengthening its network, it and other DNOs are using distribution flexibility as a solution to network needs. Some flexibility options mean businesses can choose to increase or decrease their use at times that will help make the best use of capacity. Other options may ask for companies to change their use at the request of NPg. Companies will be paid for their responsiveness and may be able to participate via a third party (such as an aggregator) that can help flexible customers such as tendering services.
NPg now plans to move to monthly tenders to provide flexibility services.
The webinar, on 10 September at 1pm, is aimed at interested stakeholders such as businesses, aggregators, generators, storage owners and major energy users like factories and supermarkets. This webinar is to brief flexible customers on the new tenders. It will cover:
- · How the monthly tenders will work in practice
- · Parameters for the Operational Utilisation + Scheduled Availability product
- · Tender timelines and key dates to be aware of
- · Systems being utilised this Winter
- · Opportunity for Q&A
