BEAR Scotland has expressed disappointment after some of its road maintenance staff in Inverness voted in favour of strike action amid concerns over pay.

According to the trade union Unite, the dispute stems from employees rejecting a pay proposal that would raise the lowest hourly wage from £12 to £12.75.

A spokesperson for BEAR Scotland said: “We understand the concerns raised by our Inverness-based roadworkers and are actively working with them to find a resolution.

“It’s disappointing that a small group of employees has chosen to support industrial action. We believe the pay rise introduced in April 2025 is both fair and competitive.

“We value the important work our teams do and remain committed to continuing constructive talks with the union.”

Unite’s general secretary, Sharon Graham, responded by stating: “BEAR Scotland is a profitable business and more than capable of offering our members a fair wage. Unite fully supports our members in their campaign for improved pay, conditions, and job security.”
