Family-owned German haulier Rein Spedition is boosting its fleet and cutting its emissions with a KEYOU converted 18-tonne truck, which comes with a hydrogen combustion engine.

Munich-based hydrogen specialist KEYOU converts diesel trucks to hydrogen powered trucks and sells its vehicles with a mobility solution for fleet operators, as well as offering comprehensive insurance coverage, a service and maintenance package, and the option to purchase fuel from KEYOU partners.

Rein Spedition employs around 400 staff and operates 12 depots across Germany. KEYOU’s converted 18 tonne hydrogen combustion truck will be used on the company’s existing diesel routes in Saarland, and will be refueled at the H2 Mobility station in Saarbrücken.

Marco Eglseder, Nikolaus Rein GmbH managing partner, said: “In recent years, we have increasingly noticed that more and more customers attach importance to CO2-free transportation. Naturally, we want to meet this demand.

“We see great potential in KEYOU’s approach of converting existing diesel engines to hydrogen combustion engines due to the cost efficiency, short refueling times and long ranges associated with this technology.

“In this way, we can not only meet the growing sustainability requirements of our customers, but also our own high efficiency standards.”

He added: ““We are delighted to be one of the first companies to integrate one of KEYOU’s H2 trucks into our fleet and, thanks to the pay-per-use offer, to be able to put it into operation easily and without a lot of preparatory work.”

Pedro Bravo, KEYOU chief sales officer, commented: “With Rein Spedition, we have gained another future-oriented company with well-known end customers for our pioneer programme.

“Together with Rein, we are taking another step towards decarbonizing heavy-duty transport and establishing the hydrogen engine as an efficient alternative to diesel.”
