The Tesla Semi is an electric truck designed for heavy-duty hauling with a gross combination weight of 82,000 lbs (approximately 37.2 tonnes). Unlike traditional diesel trucks, the Tesla Semi features a unique design that eliminates the need for a large grille to maximize airflow. Instead, the front of the truck is blanked off, with a small air intake located on the chin to cool the battery which sits between the front and rear axles.

The Tesla Semi has a 6x4 configuration and the trailer bed and tow hitch are located at the rear of the vehicle. With its all-electric powertrain, the Tesla Semi offers significant cost savings for operators. Charging with electricity is approximately 2.5 times cheaper per mile than refuelling with diesel, claims the company, which can result in estimated fuel savings of up to $200,000 within the first three years of ownership.
