Dry freight specialist Uptons Transport Services has taken delivery of its first trailer from Schmitz Cargobull.
Founded by Phil Upton in 1977, Uptons Transport Services delivers refrigerated and dry freight goods to UK supermarkets, as well as transporting ISO containers.
The new S.CS Fixed Roof curtainsider semi-trailer joins a fleet of 10 trailers supplied by a competitor, plus two DAF and two Renault tractor units.
The curtainsider has been bought to replace a like-for-like semi-trailer from a rival marque and will be in operation for up to six days a week, clocking up 160,000km per annum.
Based at the firm’s depot in Birmingham, it is expected to remain in service for 10 years, delivering dry freight for businesses across the UK.
The semi-trailer has been built on the manufacturer’s high-tech modular chassis, providing greater strength with well-distributed load and optimised weight.
Its modular bolt-on, bolt-off design makes the S.CS Fixed Roof easier to repair if damaged. It also offers excellent corrosion protection and is provided with a 10-year warranty against rust-through.
With two sliding posts and 18 buckles, the curtainsider allows for simple loading and unloading. The steel wires incorporated into the curtain offer built-in anti-theft protection and added security. For driver comfort, the new semi-trailer also features a water tank, providing fresh water for the driver when needed.
Transport services director, Phil Upton, said: “I am very impressed with the build quality and I’m delighted to have one on my fleet. I have felt very supported by the team who have kept me informed with everything throughout the entire process.”
