Turners and Heidelberg Materials UK have entered into a joint venture (JV) with the haulier distributing the manufacturer’s bulk cement from this autumn.
The JV will be owned 50/50 by Heidelberg Materials and Turners and it will have its own board made up of representatives from both companies
Heidelberg – formerly Hanson UK – confirmed that its bulk cement haulage business would be transferred into the JV along with its employees and their terms of conditions of employment would not change.
Heidelberg CEO Simon Willis said: “Heidelberg Materials is constantly looking into ways to optimise its operational model and deliver the best value for customers. As a result, we have decided to create a joint venture arrangement with Turners for the distribution of our bulk cement.
“Our aim is to enhance the distribution of our bulk cement and upgrade our fleet and operations.
“Partnering with Turners, who we already have a strong working relationship with, will enable us to be more efficient by leveraging its broad logistics experience, systems and network.”
The companies anticipated the JV was likely to take effect no sooner than 26 October.
Heidelberg Materials UK is split into five business lines – aggregates, concrete, asphalt and contracting, cement and recycling – and together they operate over 300 manufacturing sites and employ more than 4,000 staff.
