A record 9,315 freight containers were handled at Southampton Port last week, thanks a new operating strategy it has employed on vessels.

DP World said it had broken its previous terminal record of 8,213 moves set two years ago after the Ocean Network Express ship ONE Trust docked at the port from Pursan in South Korea.

Steve McCrindle, port operations director at Southampton, said: “We are committed to consolidating Southampton’s position as the most productive port in the UK, turning vessels around faster than any of our competitors.

“Our performance on ONE Trust was made possible by our new ten crane operating model, which enables us to concentrate more cranes on a vessel while continuing to service other customers at the same time, thereby boosting our productivity.”
