Truck supplier MV Commercial has provided Readypower Rail Services with three new 32-tonne Volvo FH460s, mounted with heavy haulage plant bodies and Palfinger loader cranes.
The 8x2 Volvos join the specialist rail and infrastructure services provider’s 24-strong mixed commercial fleet.
Readypower’s rail services director Cameron Barr said it relied on MV Commercial because it was able to source what it needed and overcame issues it had experienced before with delays in acquiring equipment.
“Previously we’d have bought the chassis, delivered it to the crane supplier, then had to go to the bodybuilder, before getting each truck type approved,” he said.
“MV were able to do all of that for us – they’re a one-stop shop.”
The bespoke beavertail plant bodies include dedicated rail channels to accommodate the specialist rail plant and equipment they are required to carry.
Two of the trucks will operate out of Readypower’s Nottingham depot, with the other based in the yard at Rochester.
“We sourced four trucks from MV Commercial last year ahead of this latest deal and once again it’s how engaged the team have been throughout the process that stands out,” Barr added.
“They know the nuts and bolts of what we require, which means we always get the product we need.”
The vehicles will cover around 120,000km annually, delivering heavy plant and attachments, such as buckets, grabs, rail beams and rail freight, to Network Rail’s principal maintenance contractors.
