EV software platform ChargePoint has announced a new generation of AC chargers offering some of the fastest speeds possible for vehicles, including trucks and vans.

It said its new product architecture featured bidirectional charging and speeds up to double that of a typical AC Level 2 charger.

Variants are being designed for commercial, residential, and fleet applications in Europe and North America.

Features include vehicle-to-everything capability, enabling an EV to deliver energy as a zero-emissions generator for a home, commercial building or to transfer energy back to the grid.

It can also offer the maximum charging speeds of 22kW.

Features include ultra-fast charging at the maximum speed possible.

“ChargePoint’s next generation of EV chargers will be revolutionary, not evolutionary,” said Hossein Kazemi, ChargePoint CTO hardware.

“The architecture underpinning them enables highly anticipated technologies which will deliver a significantly better experience for station owners and the EV drivers who charge with them.”

The first models to be built on the platform will arrive in Europe this summer.

The challenges around charging fleets of electric vehicles and the associated demands on the grid were discussed at a Freight Carbon Zero roundtable discussion last month.
