Gist and Translux International saw the biggest increase in fleet truck numbers over the last month, but the total number specified on operator licences has fallen by almost 1,000 following the Christmas peak.

Analysis of licence figures in MT’s Fleet Data shows that Translux, which specialises in film and TV transport solutions, has added 210 HGVs to its licences – and 100 trailers.

Gist’s truck numbers have increased by 35 to 1,784 and it has specified an extra 15 trailers.

However, many logistics firms have also slashed the number of vehicles they were operating as the New Year dawned.

Unipart Group reduced its fleet numbers by 322 lorries and Tesco Distribution cut its number by 116 to 2,554.

Royal Mail reduced its fleet by around 500 trucks but it increased its trailer fleet by 63.

Fleet Data is Motor Transport’s listing of the UK’s largest third party and own account HGV fleet operators.

Based on the weekly O-licence updates issued by the office of the traffic commissioners, Fleet Data enables subscribers quickly to identify operators in each of the eight traffic areas based on the number of vehicles on the licence and type of operator.
