Lockwood Haulage has bought a 75% stake in Essex firm S & R Smith & Son as part of a growth strategy.
The company said its acquisition of a majority share in the Grays haulage firm would help shape its future and was a significant milestone for the business.
In a statement, Lockwood Haulage said: “The collaboration with S & R Smith & Son will provide us with enhanced capabilities, expanded resources and a broader presence within the industry.
“Over the coming weeks, our leadership teams will work on ensuring a smooth transition from both sides.
“This is an exciting time for Lockwood Haulage Ltd and S & R Smith & Son, and we express our gratitude to all for the dedication and hard work that has made this possible.”
S & R Smith & Son is family owned and was established in 1949 with just two rigid flat back vehicles.
It offers a range of distribution services including break bulk transport, part and full loads and contract distribution, as well as warehousing and storage.
It currently holds an operator licence for 59 HGVs and 105 trailers running out of two depots in Grays.
