Peterborough-based JS Davidson is helping local children’s charity Little Miracles with the storage and delivery of toys and games in preparation for the festive season.

An advocate for the charity since just before Covid, the temperature-controlled firm is helping ensure the thousands who come into contact with the charity – including siblings – have presents to open on Christmas morning.

The company said it had also relied on its contacts to help source meals and raise awareness of the charity to customers and suppliers, receiving meals such as chicken suppers which are frozen and distributed among families.

The charity will combine these with other donations to allow families to enjoy traditional festive luxuries such as mince pies and Christmas puddings.

Over the two-week Christmas period the charity is expecting to come into contact with 5,000 people – several hundreds of whom will receive help from its foodbank.

Now in its third year the foodbank is used by more than three quarters of the families who receive help from Little Miracles.

The transport firm will deliver toys and games in the run-up to Christmas.

Louise Evans, head of income generation at Little Miracles, said: “As a platinum ambassador who has supported Little Miracles for more than five years John Davidson and his team at JS Davidson have been a tremendous asset to Little Miracles.

“Our annual costs have seen quite a dramatic increase this year – largely down to national insurance and the living wage, but also in terms of the need for the foodbank among our families.

“The food leaves our foodbank as quickly as it arrives but John has been a fantastic help – when approached by suppliers who asks what they can do with their spare food he has been an excellent conduit – signposting them in our direction and reaping endless benefits for our families.”

The charity added that as well as ambient foods such as rice, pasta and tinned foods it was also seeking donations of festive treats such as mince pies and Christmas pudding, biscuits, sweets and cakes.
