Lorry drivers now have more parking spaces near Peterborough to choose from after Extra MSA completed a £1.3m building project.
The investment has added 72 HGV bays to the rear of Peterborough Services and it said the extra capacity was part of a strategy to enhance driver welfare and support logistics along the A1(M) corridor.
Construction involved the installation of 900 cubic metres of concrete and 5,200 tonnes of imported stone, poured in 17 stages over a six-and-a-half-week period.
Extra MSA is also investing in future-ready infrastructure elsewhere across its estate. At Baldock Services, construction is now underway on the UK’s first public charging bays for eHGVs.
Tom Dobson, CEO at Extra MSA Group said: “The new HGV bays at Peterborough Services will make a real difference to drivers, particularly at a time when demand for safe, secure and accessible parking continues to grow.
“At Extra, we recognise the vital role HGV drivers play in keeping the country moving, and we’re committed to investing in infrastructure that supports their welfare and operational needs.
“Whether it’s expanding parking capacity or preparing for the future of electric freight, we’re focused on delivering service areas that meet the evolving demands of the logistics sector.”
