SMEs based in the West Midlands who conduct commercial operations within the centre of Birmingham can apply for a grant package of up to £180,000 from Birmingham towards low-emission vehicles, including eHGVs.

The grant is in connection with Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone (CAZ), under which vehicles that do not meet emissions standards will be charged to enter the area.

The grants from a total available of £10.5m are designed to help small to medium-sized enterprises with HGVs, coaches and/or LGVs upgrade their fleet to meet the standards.

Businesses must be based in the West Midlands and carry out commercial operations within the centre of Birmingham. They must have been trading for over 12 months, own or lease a qualifying vehicle (N2, N3 or N4) that does not meet standards and be able to show that they enter the Clean Air Zone at least twice a week over a three-month period. As an SME they must employ fewer than 250 people and have a turnover below £41.81m, or annual balance sheet below £35.96m.

The grant will be up to a maximum of £15,000 per vehicle towards purchase, lease or retrofit solution, along with £15,000 for exit lease or relocation expenses and companies must provide a preferred supplier quote.
