Supermarket chain Tesco has appointed former Exel Logistics chief John Allan as its new chairman.
Allan will replace Richard Broadbent following his decision to step down from the post on 1 March.
Allan was CEO of Ocean Group in the 1990s and then of Exel when Ocean merged with NFC in 2000.
He later joined the board of Deutsche Post when it acquired Exel and subsequently managed its new logistics division.
Allan said he was “very pleased to be taking on the Tesco role at such a critical moment for the business”.
Broadbent added that he was “delighted” at the announcement: “I am sure that his wide expertise, his experience and his personal qualities will contribute greatly to the future of the group,” he said.
