Europa Worldwide Group has launched a competition to recognise the achievements of its female staff, as part of its celebration of International Women’s Day, which takes place today (8 March).
The competition’s brief is to identify those women in the group who “take bold steps” to expand the company’s “individual and cumulative potential”.
The firm employs over 1,400 people at 26 sites across the UK and internationally, of which 40% are women – a figure which exceeds current industry figures, with women currently making up just 20% of the transport sector’s workforce, according to research by the Transport Exchange Group.
Almost half (47%) of the branch managers in Europa Road’s sales operations team of 370 staff are female, whilst 55% of the division’s customer sales managers are women.
Europa Air & Sea division, which has sites in the UK, Hong Kong, China and the UAE, has 35% female representation.
Europa Warehouse, which offers 3PL services and bonded warehouse facilities in Dartford, Birmingham and Corby, also has 43% of women across all roles from operations through to senior management.
The group said these figures are “testament to Europa’s flexible and family focused approach which includes generous support for parents as well as its strong company values which underpins its whole approach to business”.
Chief operating officer Dionne Redpath (pictured), who leads the Europa Warehouse team, said: “All of our team across the business have been appointed because of their sheer talent and hard work.
“At Europa we’re passionate about reaching a balanced gender split which therefore provides women with an equal opportunity to take up senior positions if they so wish.”
Chelsea Bartlett, branch manager at Europa Road in Cardiff, added: “I have been fortunate to be part of the Europa Road team for nearly a year now and within this time alone they have enabled me to advance my career in the logistics sector.
“The company's vision of nurturing employee growth and investing in its people has provided me with an environment that supports both the personal and professional development of me and my team.”
