Massey Wilcox said it was comfortable with decreases reported in its turnover and profits last year and pointed out it had maintained market share.

Unaudited results for the haulage, distribution and warehousing firm showed that revenues reduced by 3.3% to £13.6m in the year ending 31 May 2024.

Pre-tax profit fell by 63.1% to £307,000.

The company’s review of the business during the trading period said decreases occurred across both its transport and warehousing divisions.

“The company continues to experience general increases in the direct running costs from fuel, insurance and wages, that they have not been able to pass on to customers through increased rates,” it explained.

“The directors are satisfied that they have continued to maintain their market share in this very competitive and congested market.

“The company continues to be well placed in the sector, which is aided in no uncertain terms by the respect held for its heritage, to take advantage of the future opportunities in its turnover and profitability.”

The family-run south west haulier celebrated 70 years in business in 2024.

For its anniversary the company decked out a vehicle in the firm’s original livery from 1954.
