Hanson has bought Manchester-based waste disposal firm A1 Services as part of a strategy to provide more recycled products.
A1 Services specialises in waste removal, as well as recycling soil, concrete hardcore and general waste from building, construction and civil engineering projects.
It holds a licence authorising 47 HGVs and five trailers at its operating centre in Swinton, Greater Manchester.
Hanson said its plan was to conserve the use of natural resources and it had a commitment to the circular economy.
It said the acquisition was the first step in its planned growth in the recycling sector, as well as boosting its presence in the Manchester market.
Hanson chief executive Simon Willis said: “A1 Services has built an enviable reputation for providing reliable and efficient waste recycling services, with the directors having over 50 years’ experience in the sector.
“This acquisition will allow us to provide more recycled products into the local market and provide a source of recycled asphalt planings for our asphalt business.”
