Hydrogen trucks are not dead. But they’re expensive. Four months into a trial with a hydrogen-powered Scania, an Italian haulier has found that energy costs are 3.5 times those of diesel. And the price is only part of the problem.

A fix to keep trailers cold without sacrificing truck’s range

Keeping a refrigerated trailer cold can draw power from an electric truck’s battery; power that would otherwise go towards driving. Swiss dairy group Emmi is trying a fix: giving each trailer its own 45kWh battery, so refrigeration no longer competes with the truck for range.
