Cenex has named Steve Carroll as its new head of transport.

A fleet management and renewable energies specialist, Carroll was chosen for the technical expertise he will bring to conducting vehicle trials and helping large fleet owners implement carbon-reduction strategies.

He will be responsible for heading up Cenex’s national vehicle trials, as well as developing relationships with technology firms, local authorities and private fleet operators to help them understand the importance of low-carbon vehicle technology.

Carroll has worked at Cenex for seven years, and recently been the study lead on the UK government’s Low Carbon Truck Trial, analysing the use of multiple alternative fuels across 12 consortia of truck fleets.

“I couldn’t be more honoured to take on this new role at a time when Cenex is supporting large-scale low carbon vehicle trials in the UK and internationally,” said Carroll of his new position. “I am looking forward to helping governments and industry harness the latest technical innovations and transition to sustainable, low carbon transportation solutions.”

Robert Evans, CEO at Cenex, said, “His technical expertise and strong relationships with innovators, governments and end users will help us deliver projects that accelerate the shift to low carbon transportation in the UK and around the world.”

Cenex was established in 2005 as the UK’s first Centre of Excellence for Low Carbon and Fuel Cell technologies, and now operates as an independent not-for-profit consultancy in the delivery of projects to accelerate the shift to a low-carbon economy.
