Following on from the recent expansion of Coultons Bread’s five-year delivery partnership with Allied Bakeries, the Liverpool-based firm has won two major public sector framework deals.

The two framework deals, which both run for two years, are with Yorkshire Procurement Organisation (YPO) and The University Caterers’ Organisation (TUCO).

Speaking to Motortransport.co.uk MD Howard Hunter said the two deals open the door to major public sector orders with hospitals, schools, universities and local authorities.

Coultons Bread, which trades as Happy Bread, recently extended its partnership with Alliance Bakeries.

It will open a depot this November in Caernarfon as part of this deal, which will deliver Allied Bakeries’ bread products across North Wales using Coultons’ 95-strong fleet, which are mostly 3.5 tonne Mercedes Sprinter vans.

The company is currently looking to recruit 19 drivers for the new depot.

The firm, which employs around 100 drivers, delivers 4,500 orders a week to 2,500 customers, including B&M and Home Bargains as well as hotels, cafes and large catering organisations across the North of England and North Wales.

It has depots in Liverpool, Manchester, Bradford, Nottingham, Carlisle, Newcastle and Caernarfon.

Coultons Bread is also applying for a Standard National O-licence after strengthening its logistics team with the addition of new transport manager, Gerry Gorman, a former DHL transport manager. The company lost its restricted licence earlier this year.

If the application is successful the firm plans to reinstate deliveries to and from its bakeries in Bradford and Newcastle using its four 7.5-tonne Ivecos.
