Wincanton has signed a new five year contract with cycling and car accessories retailer Halfords, extending the partnership between the two companies to 8 years.
Under the deal, Wincanton will remain Halford’s sole UK supplier of transport services, delivering car maintenance, car enhancement, car servicing, cycling and travel products from Halfords’ warehouses to its stores.
Operations will be run out of the Halfords distribution centre in Coventry and Redditch, with 130 Wincanton staff working in support of the contract.
The contract will see Wincanton using 55 vehicles to deliver to 476 stores nationwide, totalling approximately 15,000 loads per year.
Huw Jenkins, Wincanton general merchandise director, said: “We are delighted to be continuing our relationship with Halfords.
“Having worked with the company for the last three years, we were keen to demonstrate Wincanton’s role as a trusted partner with the knowledge and expertise to operate an efficient and cost-effective transport service on behalf of Halfords.
"We look forward to continuing our work with the company, and delivering an industry leading service for the long term.”
Tracey Barley-Wild, Halfords head of logistics, said: “For a company such as ours operating across all parts of the UK, having a trusted partner that is able to deliver a professional and reliable transport operation is business critical.
“Wincanton has demonstrated over the past three years that it is more than up to the task, and we are pleased to be continuing our association with the company.”
Last year Halfords renewed its entire long-haul fleet with the purchase of 50 new Volvo FH tractor units, which Wincanton runs on its distribution contract.
