Halfords Group is renewing its entire long-haul fleet with 50 new Volvo FH tractor units.
The 500hp trucks with Globetrotter XL cabs were supplied by Volvo dealership The Hartshorne Group, which the retailer has been working with for three years, and will be run by Wincanton on its national distribution contract.
Halfords said it favoured the Volvos because of the manufacturer's focus on safety for drivers and road users alike.
Tracey Barley-Wild, head of logistics at the group, said its experience with the dealership had "proved extremely successful".
She added: "We are now happy to renew our entire long distance logistics fleet with FH-500 tractor units.
"There are obvious synergies with the Halfords Group and Volvo Trucks brand names with both putting safety, quality and leading customer service levels at the forefront of their respective businesses, meaning we’re ready for anything.”
The 50 Volvo FHs are fitted with Dynafleet telematics, as well as the standard Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking System.
Keith Bradley, account director at The Hartshorne Group, said: "We have developed a trusted and effective operating partnership with Halfords Group over the last three years.
"I am delighted the company has chosen Volvo again and we’re proud to be associated with such a leading name in road and cycle safety.”
Of the 50 trucks, 39 are already on the road. The remaining 19 will be delivered after 14 January 2018, which will take Volvo's presence on Wincanton's contract to 100%.
