Wincanton bought 75 new cement mixers for it's Hanson contract

Hanson has outsourced part of its concrete delivery operations to Wincanton.

Under the eight-year contract Wincanton will deliver more than half a million cubic metres of concrete a year to Hanson's customers, typically building contractors, using a flexible fleet of around 70 vehicles in Wincanton and Hanson liveries.

The agreement sees Wincanton strengthen its presence in the construction sector and comes just six months after the firm renewed its six-year contract with Hope Construction Materials as its logistics partner for bulk and bagged cement.

Wincanton said the contract could also open the door to further opportunities in the “wider Hanson business”.

Chris Fenton, MD at Wincanton said: “Hanson is a leading industry player and we look forward to working with the whole team to deliver the highest standards of operational excellence and customer service. The company makes a great addition to our growing portfolio of clients in the construction industry.

He added: “This contract win is very exciting news for us as we are the first 3PL provider to enter the ready-mix concrete market, strengthening our position as a pioneer in the logistics sector. This will offer us a lot of opportunities to showcase our inventive ways of working and the ingenuity of our approach to help our customers grow.”

Matt Barlow, Hanson UK’s supply chain director said Hanson chose Wincanton for its “expertise, scale and professionalism” adding the firm believes the deal “will unlock efficiencies within our business where truck utilisation and on-time delivery are critical”.

He added: “The outsourcing of part of our concrete delivery operations to Wincanton will complement our existing franchise and company vehicle fleet and allow us to provide high levels of service to all our customers.”
