Logistics firms have won millions of pounds in new and extended contracts this year from retailers and manufacturers based in the UK and beyond. Here is Motortransport.co.uk's top 10 contract wins of 2012.
Ceva Logistics wins five year Silentnight home delivery contract
In June, Ceva revealed that it had won a five-year contract delivering beds for Silentnight Group, taking over from three separate logistics companies. It will make over 70,000 deliveries a year from Silentnight’s manufacturing plants in Cumbria and Lancashire.
Gefco signs seven-year General Motors deal
The US car manufacturer chose Gefco to manage its inbound and outbound logistics in Europe, beginning in 2013. It will supply GM assembly sites in the UK, Poland, Spain, Germany and Russia and ship vehicles worldwide; around 1.2 million Opel, Vauxhall and Chevrolet vehicles annually.
New deal takes the biscuit for DHL Supply Chain
The firm won a five year contract working with Burton’s Biscuit Company, the manufacturer behind Jammie Dodgers, Maryland Cookies and Wagon Wheels. The contract will be operated out of DHL’s new consolidated warehouse in Liverpool.
Panther wins £9m of new business this year
Two-man delivery firm Panther won £9m in new business in 2012, including contracts with Bathstore, TC office furniture and Worldstores. It attracted the retailers after it changed its business model from general haulage to two-man delivery in 2010.
DHL takes a five-year slice of Warburtons' primary logistics
The bread maker chose DHL Supply Chain to manage its primary logistics operation from Warbutons' Bolton site, distributing up to two million loaves of bread, rolls and crumpets daily between the manufacturer's 12 bakeries and 13 depots.
Norbert takes yellow jersey with Tour de France renewal
Tour de France organiser Amaury Sport Organisation extended its relationship with Norbert Dentressangle (ND) until 2018. ND will remain the event’s official transport provider and has hauled Tour de France equipment for 30 years.
Yusen Logistics wins Glen Dimplex contract
The firm’s new distribution contract with Glen Dimplex Home Appliances will see it deliver brands including Belling and Stoves to retailers nationwide, visiting each postcode two or three times per week.
