Bartrums

Bartrums has reported a combined turnover of more than £28m for 2016, with strong growth in its road services arm.

Newly published accounts show that for the year ending 31 December 2016, the Eye, Suffolk-based company posted a turnover of £19.6m in its haulage and storage division, 3.7% higher than in the previous year.

Pre-tax profit increased by 16.6% to £702,000.

Its road services business increased sales by almost 13% to £8.8m, although pre-tax profits reduced by a fifth to £962,000.

As a result, combined pre-tax profit was £1.66m, down slightly on the previous year's £1.8m.

The company said in its review of the business that the growth in turnover was achieved as a result of its investment to improve warehouse capacity in 2015.

It added: “The directors are pleased with the results for the year and believe the company is well placed for the foreseeable future.

“The haulage industry is very competitive, the need to control costs and increase efficiency continues.”

The company’s directors declined to comment further on its results.
