Wincanton has ordered 100 new Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor units as part of its ongoing expansion plans. The trucks have been ordered with an emphasis on safety, and will all be fitted with Active Brake Assist and Proximity Control Assist systems. Tesco is to close two of its distribution centres in the UK, bringing all warehouse operations carried out by DHL Supply Chain and Wincanton in-house, as part of a long-term plan to “simplify” its distribution operations.
Wincanton has signed a conditional agreement to dispose of the operations of its container business to Maritime for around £1.5m.
Wincanton is running the rule over a possible merger with Eddie Stobart Logistics (ESL).
