Retailer The Co-operative has installed a telematics and transport management system from Microlise. The system, which includes features such as electronic proof of delivery, driver fuel efficiency monitoring and planned-versus-actual route and schedule comparisons, will cover more than 1,300 trucks. The deal extends an existing nine-year working relationship between the two companies. More than 700 Co-operative Food Group drivers are being balloted for industrial action over a plan to transfer around 50 drivers in the Midlands to haulier Eddie Stobart this April.
Operators including Bibby Distribution, Culina and Royal Mail have had drivers shortlisted for the Microlise Driver of the Year Awards.
Food and drink logistics services provider Culina Logistics has revealed plans to fit out its entire fleet of around 400 trucks with forward facing cameras and remote speeding alerts. The operator will also install a trailer tracking system on almost 1,000 trailers. Both measures are subject to a successful trial of the respective systems that will get underway in August.
