Marks & Spencer shaved 8.3% off its distribution costs last year. In its latest results, for the year ended 28 March 2015, the retail giant spent £408.7m on its distribution activities, down from £445.5m the previous year. DHL has said a ‘generous offer’ has been made to staff at its Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire depot who have voted for strike action. Union Unite Scotland said that over 350 warehousing and logistics employees at DHL’s Westfield site in the area rejected DHL’s offer of a 2% annual increase, to run over two years. Fowler Welch has won a full supply chain contract with Delamere Dairy to handle its Marks & Spencer (M&S) volumes.
Gist has added the first 44 pallet refrigerated double-deckers to its fleet, increasing its pallet-carrying capacity by 10%. The 20 temperature-controlled trailers, supplied by Gist’s long-term trailer manufacturer Gray & Adams, are tailored for deliveries of chilled foods, dairy products and cut flowers to retailers across the UK and the Continent.
