Calor Gas has ordered 88 Cartwright trailers and eight rigid-body vehicles as part of its fleet replacement programme.
The order will take Calor’s fleet of Cartwright-built trailers to 437, and its Cartwright cylinder rigids, which range between 5-tonnes and 18-tonnes GVW, to 234.
The majority of the order, 56, consists of 35-tonne Cartwright tandem axle cylinder trailers. The 13.2m trailers will provide all-round access to the load using removable gates and adjustable bars, specifically designed for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) deliveries.
Calor Gas has also ordered 22, 10.9m tandem axle trailers for deliveries to areas with restricted access, five of which are fitted with tail lifts and a central access walkway. This enables the driver to access the LPG cylinders being transported.
Calor’s order also includes 10, 12.3m step-frame trailers.
The 35-tonners have been specifically designed for loading at the company’s cylinder filling plant in Grangemouth.
Long relationship
Calor’s national vehicle engineering manager, Iain Carr, said: “We have had a long relationship with Cartwright because they are able to design and build what the customer wants.
"We have very specific requirements and over the years we have been able to work closely with Cartwright, leading to a number of improvements on our cylinder trailers and rigid vehicle fleet.”
The operator began using Cartwright trailers in 1999, when it asked the manufacturer to redesign its cylinder trailer.
