DPD has denied that it is currently considering opening a fifth hub in 2018-20. Royal Mail is to open 10 temporary parcel sorting sites between now and Christmas to sort a significant amount of its peak volumes.
Parcel volumes over the summer at UK Mail were below expectations, causing turnover to slip 1% year-on-year in the first half of its financial year.
DPD is to give its self-employed workers new rights including sick pay, annual leave and a pension as part of a new driver code, which comes after the death of a self-employed driver earlier this year.
