Wincanton has been awarded a five year contract expansion with Morrisons, handling the logistics for its convenience stores in the North.

The new part of the contract will cover warehousing and distribution for Morrisons’ ‘M Local’ convenience stores in the north of England, and it follows the opening of Wincanton’s dedicated Morrisons convenience store DC in London earlier this year to service the South.

The contract will be ran out of Wincanton’s 150,000 ft² Morrisons DC in Bury, Greater Manchester, which is due to open in October and will have the ability to service over 100 convenience stores.

Eric Born, chief executive of Wincanton, said: "We are delighted to be expanding our partnership with Morrisons with the announcement of this five year contract.

"Over the last 18 months, we have seen our market share grow as we broaden our service offering in the UK retail sector, and today's announcement confirms the enormous potential that exists for Wincanton."

Earlier this year, Clipper took on the distribution of Morrisons’ Nutmeg clothing range.
