Hermes is investing £25m in a new Warrington hub, almost tripling capacity in the area to support volume growth.
The hub is due to open in April 2014 and will be capable of processing 560,000 parcels a day, which the firm said will allow room to accommodate growth in online shopping volumes.
The 160,000 ft² site will have 40 inbound doors and 54 outbound doors, as well as parking for 182 trailers and 100 tractor units. The doors will be fitted with dock levellers to enable wheeled access.
It will allow the parcel carrier, which has recently added 100 new vehicles and 300 trailers to its fleet, to provide later collection cut-off times as well as a higher proportion of next day deliveries.
Sales and marketing director Gary Winter said: “This new hub will ensure we continue to provide the best possible service for our existing clients. The massive throughput capability will also give us room to continue to grow our business as we take advantage of the continuing surge in online shopping.”
The hub is being built on the £1bn Omega North logistics site at junction 8 of the M62 in Warrington.
