Gist has re-branded and restructured the European arm of its business, bringing several different operating companies and centres under one roof. In 2005 Gist acquired G Van Dongen Holdings, a conglomerate of seven temperature-controlled operators based in the Netherlands and Spain, with a customer base including Flowerplus, Fritolay, Maersk, and Tetrapak. TNT Express has unveiled a strategy to improve its performance and financial results as both group turnover and operating profit continue to decline.
Gist and long-term customer Marks & Spencer have signed a 12 year extension to their warehousing and distribution partnership, with the first year of the contract estimated to be worth circa £300m.
Gist blamed one-off pension costs and retailers’ squeezing of supply chain providers for a 23% fall in pre-tax profit last year, but it still saw turnover rise by 7.2%. For the year ended 31 December 2011 pre-tax profit fell to just under £18.8m, from £24.5m the previous year. However, turnover rose 7.2% year-on-year from £379m to £406m.
