Tarmac has confirmed it is in consultation with staff, following media reports suggesting it intends to relocate its headquarters from Wolverhampton to Solihull as part of its joint-venture with Lafarge.
The firms are looking to combine their UK activities in the cement, aggregates, asphalt and ready-mix concrete (RMX) sectors to find further efficiencies in a tough environment.
According to reports, the closure of Tarmac’s Ettingshall, Wolverhampton, headquarters and the opening of a new base in Solihul is one of the options on the table.
In a statement, Terry Last, chief executive of Tarmac, said: “We are currently consulting with employees on how the Tarmac/Lafarge joint venture will be structured once the regulatory process is complete.
“It would be inappropriate to comment publicly while these conversations with employees are still on-going.”
The tie-up was delayed in May after the Competition Commission demanded the sale of certain assets on competition grounds, a process that is underway.
