Elddis Transport is to roll-out in-cab software that enables drivers to instantly scan and email proof of deliveries (PODs) after a successful trial.
The Consett, County Durham-based operator has been trialling the Mandata system in five of its rigid vehicles.
PODs are scanned as consignments are delivered, and the full process is completed in one action with full high-quality images produced as proof.
According to Elddis, the new process has already reduced administration time for office staff by between one and two hours per day. As a result, it plans to install the software across its national fleet.
Debbie Hocking, distribution manager at Elddis, says, "We welcomed the trial of in-cab scanning software in our vehicles as we are under increasing pressure from customers to deliver PODs within 24 hours of delivery.
"Under traditional methods, this was becoming difficult, as we often only receive the paper work for PODs at the end of every working week.
"With the trial of the new software, everything happens at once and our drivers have been relieved of the old process of manually checking jobs off their paper manifests."
Elddis Transport recently showcased the UK's "biggest curtainsider" at the Multimodal show.
- Pallet-Track will go paperless within the next couple of months, after a successful trial of digital signature-capture technology. Customers will in future simply sign on screen, rather than being issued a physical consignment note. However, the note will still be available by request, with around 30% of customers likely to keep do so for now, something Pallet-Track expects to decline significantly within the next few years.
