Bibby Distribution has cut its accident rate by 75% since 2015 after a major safety drive.

The company recorded its lowest-ever number of RIDDORs (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrence Regulations) and overall lost time accidents (LTAs) in 2019 following the launch of two major safety campaigns in 2015.

The first, dubbed ‘Come Home Safe’ aims to encourage staff to take a proactive approach to safety, instilling a sense of responsibility to protect their colleagues on a daily basis so they return home safely.

The second campaign, known as the Key Safe Behaviours project, was led by the company’s dedicated safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) team.

It focused on tackling safety issues such as trips, slips and falls with preventative measures including footwear maintenance and increased hazard reporting.

In the same year the company has also won an International Safety Award from the British Safety Council (BSC), and been awarded two RoSPA Gold Awards, for the third consecutive year.

The company is also celebrating Bibby Distribution driver Mark Field being named Microlise Driver of the Year after recording not one instance of harsh braking, over-revving or excessive acceleration in 12 months.

Andrew Mawson, Bibby Distribution’s head of SHEQ, who was recently appointed chair of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health’s (IOSH) Logistics and Retail Group, said: “We set some ambitious safety goals for the business in 2015, and we are now significantly ahead of our accident reduction target – showing that at every level, our team is focused on ensuring operations are as safe as possible.”
