B Taylor & Sons in Nottinghamshire increased revenues by almost 2% before the coronavirus pandemic struck last year, but pre-tax profit dropped by 44.7%.
In its latest set of financial results for the year ending 31 March 2020, the Sutton in Ashfield haulier reported a turnover of £17.3m, up from £17m in 2019.
Pre-tax profit fell from £1.3m to £728,000.
In a statement accompanying its results, the company, which operates around 185 HGVs out of eight operating centres in the north east traffic area and 20 in the north west, said: “As for many businesses of our size, the environment in which we operate continues to be challenging and, since March 2020, we have had the added uncertainties affecting the company from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“The haulage industry in the UK is highly competitive and margins continue to be tight.
“However, the director is confident that the company is well placed to face the challenges ahead.”
