Construction work on the Co-operative Group’s new £20m RDC in Avonmouth has been completed.

Developers Gallan Group and Stoford have handed over the keys to the site at Cabot Park on Poplar Way to the supermarket chain.

Deliveries into the RDC will begin this month, building up to full operation in May 2013 when the fitting out and stocking of the site will be complete.

The 435,750ft² facility, near junction 18 on the M5, will employ around 900 staff, some of whom have already started on site.

Avonmouth RDC will distribute around 1.2 million cases per week to 482 Co-operative food stores in Bristol, north Somerset and south Wales.

In August the Co-operative appointed Adrian Buxton as general manager of its Avonmouth DC.
