Iveco has launched the S-Way CNG 6x2 tractor unit, adding to its range of natural gas products.
With a GVW up to 44-tonnes and refuelling times comparable to diesel, fleets can cut CO2 emissions by up to 95% when using biomethane instead of diesel. The new 6x2 configuration is a collaboration with Astra Vehicle Technologies.
Mike Cutts, Iveco business line director full range UK and ROI said: “The Iveco S-Way natural gas CNG 6x2 enables more operators than ever before to take full advantage of this renewable fuel and substantially cut fleet CO2 emissions. Thanks to our partnership with Astra Vehicle Technologies, Iveco is in the unique position of offering not only the most powerful natural gas truck on the market, but also the most capable.”
The S-Way CNG 6x2 is equipped with the XCursor 13 engine which features a 12.9-litre unit adapted to run on natural gas. With 500hp, the latest iteration of this engine is 10% lighter and 8% more efficient than its predecessor.
As well as helping fleets to decarbonise by switching to a greener fuel, the S-Way’s design focuses on helping to improve efficiency and cut fuel consumption. The S-Way comes with cameras in place of traditional side mirrors to reduce drag by 1.5%. Its new engine brake is up to 30% more effective and is capable of substituting the retarder in most scenarios. On the technology side, predictive cruise control uses topographical information to optimise the vehicle based on road grade.
Alongside its 4x2 S-Way CNG tractor unit, Iveco offers rigid 4x2 and 6x2 configurations with GVW from 18 to 26-tonne. The rigids can be specified with an 8.7-litre engine with 340 or 400hp or the larger 12.9-litre unit for 500hp, depending on application requirements. Maximum CNG ranges are estimated between 800 and 1000km.
