Gregory Group has purchased John Mitchell (Grangemouth) for an undisclosed sum, which the company said “marks a significant milestone” in its strategy to expand the business.

The family firm was establised around 70 years ago and specialises in container haulage, primarily from the Port of Grangemouth.

It employs around 200 staff, has an operating licence for 160 trucks and 270 trailers and operates a 100,000sq ft warehouse and an onsite workshop.

Announcing the purchase, Gregory Group insisted it was “business as usual” at John Mitchell (Grangemouth) with MD Ross Mitchell continuing to run the business in the role of operations director.

It added that the business will continue to operate haulage, warehousing and container services.

The company said: “With a strong reputation in Scotland, the team will continue to operate under the John Mitchell brand.

“It will be business as usual for John Mitchell customers, with the added benefit of having access to our wider group’s logistics solutions.

Gregory Group also praised John Mitchell (Grangemouth) for its cultural fit. It said: “The John Mitchell business has been built on service excellence since it was formed in 1956.

“Everyone in the team works collaboratively to deliver the very best logistics solutions, underpinned by values that were instilled three generations ago.

“This combination of heritage, values, and business approach is very closely aligned to the other companies within Gregory Group, making John Mitchell a perfect fit.

Looking ahead Gregory Group concluded: “We are excited about the future and the opportunities this acquisition brings.

“The combined strength of John Mitchell, Hayton Coulthard, Pollock and Craib will create a unique network which will support our customers, people and suppliers in Scotland and beyond.

“We welcome the John Mitchell team into the Gregory Group family and look forward to a successful partnership.”
