Ocado has ticked 35 new Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor units off its shopping list with the latest additions to its fleet.

The grocery delivery service is already running 20 of the trucks out of its customer fulfilment centres in Hatfield and Dordon, Tamworth, with 15 more awaiting delivery.

The tractor units are fitted with StreamSpace cabs with windows that extend back behind the B-pillar for enhanced driver visibility.

They are also fitted with Active Brake Assist 3, which monitors moving and stationary objects in front of the vehicle using a system of radars and cameras, sounds a warning if there is a risk of a collision, and applies the brakes if the driver takes no action.

Ocado fleet services manager Graham Thomas said: “Our Mercedes-Benz Axor tractors have been exceptionally reliable but these new Actros take us to another level in terms of safety, fuel efficiency and driver comfort.

“We also enjoy excellent relationships with the manufacturer and its Dealers – S&B’s Fleet Sales Manager Steve North and Mercedes-Benz UK’s Truck Strategic Account Manager James Venables are both very supportive.”
