Turnover at Boughey Distribution fell during the first half of its current financial year, despite winning a number of long-term contracts. Results for the half year to 30 November 2013, published by parent company NWF Group, showed a 2.1% decline in turnover at the food distribution arm to £18.5m (H1 2012: £18.9m). Last week, Dart Group revealed a near to 13% pre-tax profit rise for its transport operation, Fowler Welch. Off the back of this, which saw profit climb from £3.9m to £4.4m for the year ended 31 March 2013 at Fowler Welch, its group share price has continued to move northwards, today leaping to £2.40, up from £2.14 last week.
The basket of MT shares has only drifted northwards by 7p in the past seven days. But growth at the rate of a penny a day is a fair old shift for a traditionally quiet time of year in the road transport industry, indicating that there is a lot of sentiment backing the success of Britain’s transport firms.
Wincanton has delivered a “boringly predictable” set of results for the six months to 30 September 2013, with group turnover down 1.6% at £542.3m and operating profit up 2.1% to £24.2m compared with the same period last year.
