MeachersCarnival

Meachers Global Logistics has won a major contract renewal with cruise ship operator Carnival UK, following a competitive tender process.

The Southampton-based operator's relationship with Carnival stretches back 14 years, and Meachers already manages the company's supply chain for its vessel fleet. This includes providing inventory control, warehousing, consolidation, pick and pack, and back office support services.

As part of the renewal, Meachers will now incorporate the consolidation of food and beverage supplies and receipting of all products into the supply chain management system.

Although no financial figures have been released, MT understands the value of the deal is significant.

Meachers has recruited a further seven staff to work on the contract (taking the total to 18).  It has also increased its dedicated Carnival warehousing space in Southampton to more than 50,000ft².

Ian Strangeway, director of supply chain services at Carnival UK, said: "As our business has grown it has become vital that we have a single point of control for all of our UK warehousing, consolidation and distribution activities.

"We have been fortunate to have developed a long term relationship with Meachers and we are confident that their experience and focused approach will deliver tangible improvements to support our supply chain management."

Stuart Terris, MD of Meachers, said:  "We are delighted to be extending our relationship with Carnival UK."

He explained Meachers had introduced a new web based delivery portal to help manage the diverse range of supplies required, and had also introduced a new bar coding facility to improve stock control and the ability to track and trace goods.
