Stobart Group’s Biomass division has won a contract to supply up to 1 million tonnes of biomass fuel per year to Greensphere Capital, to feed its existing and future power plants.
The contract will cover the supply and transport of fuel for the waste biomass power plants being developed by Greensphere, which manages capital on behalf of investors including the UK Green Investment Bank.
The companies have worked closely over the past 18 months to identify biomass projects that Greensphere can invest in.
The contract has no minimum volume commitment, although Stobart expects that volumes will grow in the next three years as more plants become operational.
Stobart Group chief executive Andrew Tinkler said: "We believe Greensphere is the ideal partner for Stobart Biomass in this rapidly expanding market and whilst we continue to work with a number of other plant developers this agreement promises to underpin a sizeable element of our biomass supply strategy."
Earlier this year Stobart Group’s Biomass division won a 15-year contract with Evermore Renewable Energy Plant.
