Royal Mail has won two new contracts with British Gas, delivering mail to customers and parts and equipment to engineers.
The five year mail contract, set to begin in Spring 2013, will see it collect, sort and deliver gas bills to households across Britain. It won the contract back from rival TNT Post, which took the business from Royal Mail in 2007.
Royal Mail has also been awarded a five year equipment delivery contract, delivering energy monitoring Smart Meters to British Gas engineers nationwide. Its contract for overnight delivery of service and repair parts to engineers has also been extended until 2018.
Royal Mail chief customer officer Mike Newnham said: “In a competitive postal market, Royal Mail’s reputation, competitiveness and strength of account management were instrumental in securing this contract win.”
British Gas MD for procurement and supply chain Rob Morton said the firm has set Royal Mail “challenging objectives” in the coming years to ensure its customers "get the best service and value”.
