Reed Boardall has retained its slice of the action by extending its deal to transport and store Dr Oetker's frozen pizza products for another three years. 

The contract sees Reed Bordall collect Chicago Town and Ristorante pizzas from Dr Oetker's food processing plant in Leyland. It transports the products to and stores them at, its cold facility in Boroughbridge, before distribution to retailers and food service operators across the country.

The two businesses have worked together for 15 years.

Dr Oetker UK's executive head of supply chain Jonathan Stokoe said that the business had rethought its logistics needs and "looked at other suppliers" but decided to award the deal to Reed Boardall again.

Andrew Baldwin, MD of Reed Boardall’s cold storage division, said: "Over the years, we have got to know the team well, we understand their business and genuinely care about providing the best service we can.

"Like Dr. Oetker, we are a long-established family business which prides itself on quality and being customer-focused."

Reed Boardall suffered a blow in its year ended 31 March 2017, when its pre-tax profit plunged 80% to £840,646 from £4.2m the previous year.

The group attributed the fall to a changing customer base and a challenging market, but deputy chief executive Marcus Boardall said: "Having been in the business for 25 years, we are used to the vagaries of the logistics industry."

He added that he was confident the integrated cold transport and storage business model Reed Boardall operates on would continue to differentiate it from its operators.
