Automotive developer REE has begun trials of its all-electric P7 modular platform for delivery fleets.

Supporting up to four tonnes (8,800lbs) max payload, REE said the P7 platform has capacity for 35% more packages than comparable CVs.

It added that electric and autonomous vehicles built on top of the platform will be able to achieve driving ranges of up to 370 miles with speeds of up to 80 mph and supporting gross vehicle weight ratings of up to 7.5-tonnes (16,500lbs).

The first prototypes will be available for customer evaluation during the first quarter of the year and trials will take place at REE’s centre in Coventry, as well as a research base in Tel Aviv.

REE said that the P7 modular platform is designed to simplify development times of electric commercial models and was optimised for fleet owners wanting to create their own commercial vehicle brand, design and market differentiation.

Daniel Barel, REE Automotive co-founder and chief executive, said: “The P7 platform is paramount in commercial vehicle design, safety and functionality.

“True to our vision of providing complete modularity and versatility, this platform can be configured in different sizes and optimised to suit a particular application and use case.”
