International freight and logistics specialist Davies Turner has signed a new strategic partnership with Ontario-based Manitoulin Global Forwarding (MGF), to boost its ocean freight services between the UK and Canada.
The collaboration extends Davies Turner’s reach across Canada’s East and West Coasts, offering faster and more frequent transit times and multimodal logistics.
Under the new partnership, Davies Turner and MGF will offer weekly Less-than-Container Load (LCL) and Full Container Load (FCL) services weekly between Liverpool and Montreal, connecting to extensive inland networks on both continents, including into the US Midwest and Northeast.
The move comes as Canada prepares to ratify the UK’s membership in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP)—a move which aims to boost bilateral trade volumes.
Once ratified by the Ottawa Parliament - as early as this autumn - the UK will gain preferential access to one of the world’s largest free trade zones.
The two family-owned logistics firms are planning to tap into rising demand for integrated freight solutions following the CPTPP agreement, which is expected to ease market access and remove tariffs on key UK exports to Canada, including machinery, automotive parts, and pharmaceuticals.
Davies Turner, which has its headquarters in Coleshill, said the new service will appeal to a wide range of industries planning to take advantage of tariff reductions and simplified trade rules.
The partnership will also streamline operations for Canadian importers sourcing from the UK, from sectors such as consumer goods, chemicals, and aerospace components.
Tony Cole, Davies Turner director and head of the company’s ocean freight division, said: “This partnership with MGF marks an exciting chapter for Davies Turner’s Canadian services.
“It gives us an ideal opportunity to further strengthen the two-way services that we operate between the UK and Canada, just weeks after Canada agreed to ratify Britain’s accession to the CPTPP.”
Cole added that the services will particularly benefit UK exporters looking for faster and more predictable transit into Canadian markets, and vice versa.
Manitoulin Global Forwarding, based in Mississauga, Ontario, has a network of 85 freight terminals and a fleet of over 1,500 vehicles and offers end-to-end domestic and international freight solutions.
MGF’s services include customised routing, compliance guidance, and customer-focused operational support. The company said its expertise in navigating regulatory frameworks—such as CARM (Canada’s Assessment and Revenue Management customs system)—is expected to be particularly valuable to UK shippers unfamiliar with the Canadian market.
MGF’s reach also extends beyond Canada into the United States and Mexico, giving the partnership the opportunity to offer integrated North American logistics for customers with wider distribution needs.
