Long-established Lancashire haulier JM Gorry & Son has entered administration after more than 50 years of trading following the death of its MD.
Its telephone line was not working when Motor Transport attempted to contact the Morecambe haulier and it did not respond to our email, but records showed insolvency practitioners were appointed to the firm on Monday (20 July).
Established by Mick Gorry in 1962, at its peak, JM Gorry & Son had 70 staff and operated more than 50 lorries.
Office of the traffic commissioner records showed that the surrender of the company’s standard international operator licence was now under consideration.
The haulier traded out of the White Lund industrial estate in the Lancashire seaside town and its last available set of accounts stated that it employed around 32 staff in 2025.
The local press reported that Mick Gorry passed away in June at the age of 82.
A spokesman for administrator FTS Recovery in Manchester said: “The company’s principal director had unfortunately and unexpectedly passed away, which has ultimately led to the closing down of the business.”
